Letter: Support for Pequot Tribe lacking
WEDNESDAY, JULY 3, 2002

"In Washington, I stay apprised of Connecticut news through the Internet and online newspapers. Like other Pequots, I was delighted to hear Bureau of Indian Affairs' decision to grant federal recognition to our tribe. Having spent all of my adult life advancing this objective, I felt vindicated.

My euphoria is tempered, however, by a disturbing pattern among Connecticut's elected officials regarding their assessment of BIA's decision. With the possible exception of Gov. John G. Rowland, not one elected official has supported BIA's decision and congratulated the tribe in any real sense. . ."
