Two tribes in Connecticut are hoping their case for federal recognition will be helped by their state status.

The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation and the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe are waiting for an answer on their petitions. Both have been recognized by the state since Colonial times.

State recognition played a role in the recognition of the Eastern Pequot Tribe. The Bureau of Indian Affairs issued a final determination this week.
