WEDNESDAY, JUNE 26, 2002 State and local officials in Connecticut plan to appeal a decision to recognize the Eastern Pequot Tribe. State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and three towns have fought the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb on Monday recognized the groups as one historic tribe. The Bureau of Indian Affairs released the 198-page final determination yesterday. A summary notice of the decision will be published in the Federal Register. Challenges go through the Interior Board of Indian Appeals. Lawsuits are also possible. Get the Story:
