TUESDAY, JUNE 25, 2002 State and local officials in Connecticut reacted negatively to the Bureau of Indian Affairs' decision to recognize the Eastern Pequot Tribe on Monday. Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) joined the chorus of critics who said two rival factions were not deserving of federal status.
