Several gubernatorial candidates in Maine promise to veto any Indian gaming relations measures should they be elected.

The Democrat, Green and Republican candidates all oppose casinos. One independent candidate also said he would not approve gaming legislation.

The Penobscot Nation and the Passamaquoddy Tribe announced plans for a casino earlier this year but shelved the idea. They still plan to push the proposal next year.

The tribes need state approval before opening any casino.
