WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2002 The Bureau of Indian Affairs has delayed a decision on a casino land approval decision in New York, Steve Israel reports in his "Casino Confidential" column. According to Israel, the BIA approval for the St. Regis / Akwesasne Mohawk Nation will take weeks. George Skibine, the head of the Office of Indian Gaming Management, said a decision was not "imminent." The tribe is one of three seeking casinos in the Catskills region of New York. The BIA has to approve any off-reservation land-into-trust requests. Get the Story:
