FBI orders inquiry into foul-up

FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2002 FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III has ordered an inquiry to address allegations of a botched investigation of a September 11 terrorist suspect. Coleen Rowley, general counsel in the FBI office in Minneapolis, wrote a letter to complain about the way Zacarias Moussaoui was handled. Authorities allege Moussaoui would have been a suicide bomber had he not been detained prior to the attacks. But Rowley said Washington, D.C., officials held back agents who wanted to investigate Moussaoui more closely, possibly preventing the hijackings. Get the Story:
