THURSDAY, MAY 23, 2002 Some candidates for attorney general in Idaho oppose expansion of gaming by states. Lawrence Wasden, an aide to current AG Al Lance, believes slot machines are not legal in the state. He was referring to a voter initiative that the Coeur d'Alene Tribe and the Nez Perce Tribe are pushing. Todd Lakey, a county commissioner, opposes an expansion in general. Michael Bogert, a legal aide to Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, and Myron Dan, a county prosecutor, believe compacts negotiated with the tribes in 2000 should be approved.
The tribes' initiative has been certified for the November ballot.
