The Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska is going to federal court next month to prevent further action by the state of Kansas in a dispute over taxes.

The tribe wants a permanent injunction against state revenue officials who initiated criminal proceedings over $1.25 million in gas distribution taxes. The tribe also wants property seized by the state returned.

The tribe is supported by three Kansas tribes in the case.

The hearing in federal district court in Topeka is scheduled for June 12. U.S. District Judge Dale E. Saffels issued a preliminary injunction in the case last week.
