The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved the nomination of Richard Clifton to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Clifton is an attorney who worked for the Republican party in Hawaii. His nomination goes to the full Senate for a vote.

The 9th Circuit hears appeals of cases affecting a large number of tribes in the West. The court covers California, Oregon, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Alaska, Hawaii and Washington.
