Mascot bill exempts reservation schools

THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2002 A bill that would outlaw all racial- or ethnic-based mascots at public schools exempts reservations. The Hoopa Elementary School on the Hoopa Valley Elementary would not have to change its name. Its mascot is the Braves. A reported 100 schools would be affected. They would not have to change their mascots immediately and would be able to tap into a $1 million fund. Get the Story:
