The chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana has been stripped of his authority over tribal finances while conspiracy and theft charges in federal court are pending.

Clifford Bird in Ground's signing power has been given to vice chairman Vincent Goes Ahead. Bird in Ground is charged with participating in a scheme which involved turning over tribally-owned vehicles to a car dealer in order to obtain special deals for family and friends.

The car dealership has been indicted along with Bird in Ground. All the involved parties pleaded not guilty yesterday and were free without bond.
