A New Mexico lawmaker is pushing for more non-Natives to be involved in a complex water deal involving the Navajo Nation, the state and the federal government.

Senate Majority Floor Leader Manny Aragon, a Democrat, said more involvement will prevent lawsuits down the line. He wants to instruct state officials to consider more input.

But a Navajo lawmaker disputed the suggestion that non-Natives haven't been heard. Sen. Leonard Tsosie, a Democrat, succeeding in sending Aragon's proposed memorial to the Indian Affairs Committee.
