Residents oppose Mohegan Tribe's shellfish business

Residents of the town of Stonington urged their leaders to object to the Mohegan Tribe's plans to harvest shellfish. The tribe is trying to diversify its business by turning to aquaculture, a traditional tribal pursuit. But residents say the plan to build two 76-foot-long, 21-foot-high upwellers at a dock would create noise, odor and traffic. Area residents have been opposing the tribe's request for a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The agency said many of the public comments it received were racist in nature and approved the permit. Get the Story:
