Terry Cross: U.S. has failed Indian children
Monday, December 15, 2003

"Let me add something that was missing from The Oregonian's series on the tragedies, struggles and hope at Warm Springs. Last September, Garland Brunoe, chairman of the Warm Springs Tribal Council, sat in front of the U.S. Senate Indian Committee pleading for funds for child protection. I know. I was next in line to testify. The response from the committee? 'Don't count on it.'

The deaths of the children at Warm Springs can be traced back to Congress and to the federal agencies that have failed Indian children. "
