NAACP to support Conn. tribes seeking recognition
Friday, December 5, 2003

The Connecticut chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People passed a resolution to support tribes in the state that are seeking federal recognition.

The NAACP in particular supports the Golden Hill Paugussetts Tribe's petition. The tribe has been denied recognition in a preliminary decision and is submitting more information in hopes of changing the Bureau of Indian Affairs' mind.

The Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation received a final decision in favor of its status but the state is challenging it. The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation has been denied in a preliminary decision.
