Northern Cheyenne Tribe objects to BLM auction
Tuesday, November 25, 2003

The Bureau of Land Management tried to auction oil and gas rights underneath land owned by the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana.

The BLM said it didn't know the tribe owned the 640-acre parcel, located just outside the reservation. Officials pulled the land from an oil and gas lease sale taking place today after learning of the oversight.

The tribe intends to use the land for its buffalo herd, a council member said.
