Calif. tribe ousts members who oppose leaders

The membership of the Estom Yumeka Maidu Tribe of the Enterprise Rancheria has ousted 70 members. Former vice-chairman Robert Edwards and 69 others were removed by a vote held last Thursday. Edwards said the vote was 68-15 but those targeted weren't allowed to vote. Edwards and the other signed a recall petition against five members of the seven-member council. The five responded by moving to disenroll the dissidents. Separately, the FBI is investigating the five council members for reasons not made public. Get the Story:
