Noted Indian law practitioner receives top award

Charles Wilkinson, a former Native American Rights Fund attorney, has been named the 2003 recipient of the Earle A. Chiles Award.

The High Desert Museum chose Wilkinson, a University of Colorado law professor, for his accomplishments in promoting understanding of the High Desert and for promoting conflict resolution.

Wilkinson has acted a mediator in several tribal disputes. He is currently working with the city of Seattle and the Muckleshoot Tribe, and with the Oglala Sioux Tribe and the National Park Service.

Wilkinson is a co-author of "Federal Indian Law," a casebook of Indian law.
