Thursday, November 6, 2003

The Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico has a new president.

Mark Chino claimed victory on Wednesday after beating incumbent Sara Misquez. According to The Ruidoso News, Chino won 58.6 percent of the vote.

It was the second matchup between Chino, son of the late Wendell Chino, and Misquez. Chino beat Misquez two years ago but the election was overturned, leaving Misquez in power.

Chino says his goals are communication and cooperation.
