Tribal colleges present unique take on Lewis and Clark

Tribal college educators are providing a fuller view of the Lewis and Clark expedition by combining oral history, mainstream history, art and Native culture. The Fort Peck Community College on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana, Joe McGeshick wants to present the explorers and Sacagawea as realistically as possible. "It's time to look at a multifaceted view of all the people on the expedition, their strengths and weaknesses," he tells the Associated Press. Tourism is the focus of a course at the at United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota. Students visit historic forts and talk with elders about the expedition. At the Fort Berthold Community College on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota, Marilyn Hudson tries to dispel myths in her presentations about Lewis and Clark.
