Rival councils battle for control of Timbisha Tribe
Tuesday, October 28, 2003

Two rival councils are claiming control of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe of California.

The Summers Council has an agreement with the city of Hesperia for a casino. It has asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to intervene in the leadership dispute.

The BIA has sent the matter to the Interior Board of Indian Appeals, said Richard Boland, who was elected chairman last November and heads the other council.
