Farmer indicted for ramming into Omaha officials
Friday, October 24, 2003
Federal authorities brought an indictment against a non-Indian farmer for ramming his tractor into a car carrying two Omaha Tribe officials in Nebraska. Kim "Ken" Knecht is charged with assaulting a federal officer because one of the officials is a tribal police officer. He is also charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. U.S. Attorney Mike Heavican brought the charges for the October 7 incident, which occurred on the Omaha Reservation. The dispute was somewhat complicated because of the race of the people involved. Knecht is not Indian and neither is tribal prosecutor Thayne Glenn, who was in the car. Only the police officer, Roberto Gorrin, is Indian. Get the Story:
