S.D. committee taking testimony on Indian issues
Tuesday, September 30, 2003

The South Dakota Legislature's State-Tribal Relations Committee is taking testimony on Indian education and Indian economic development.

Lawmakers heard from Indian educators yesterday. Wayne Evans, president of the South Dakota Indian Education Association and a faculty member at the University of South Dakota, and Richard Bordeaux, a superintendent for a majority-Indian school, said the state needs to encourage more Indians to join the teaching field.

The committee will take testimony on economic development today.
