Lakota meetings with Lewis and Clark re-enacted

About 650 people attended a re-enactment of the first meetings between the Lakota and explorers Lewis and Clark. According to journals, Lakota boys acting as messengers first met with Lewis and Clark on September 23, 1804. The boys were sent back to the tribe with tobacco twists to signal the desire to meet with Lakota chiefs. The Lakota eventually welcomed Lewis and Clark to their lands. According to journals, the Lakota held an honoring dance and feast in late September. Get the Story:
