Research published in today's issue of Science reports the discovery of the fossil of a 1,500-pound rodent in Venezuela.

Scientists say it is the largest rodent ever found. Nine feet in length, Phoberomys patterson lived eight million years ago and was a distant relative of the guinea pig.
