Omaha Tribe opening new center to fight diabetes
Friday, September 12, 2003

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska hopes a new building will aid in the fight against diabetes.

The building will house a full-sized gym, a multi-purpose space and offices. It will be part of the tribe's wellness complex.

According to Wehnona St. Cyr, who heads the tribe's diabetes program, four of every 25 adults on the reservation have been diagnosed with diabetes. Among children, one in three show signs of the disease.
