Lumbee tribal council votes to bar felons from office
Wednesday, September 10, 2003

The Lumbee tribal council voted 12-5 on Tuesday to bar felons from serving on the tribal council or on tribal commissions.

The council held the vote because the Lumbee Supreme Court struck down an earlier vote that was held in secret.

Jerry McNeill, a convicted felon, says the new rule won't stop him from running for chairman.
