Award-winning artist chosen for Navajo fair poster
Thursday, September 4, 2003

The 75th annual Navajo Nation Fair kicked off Wednesday. The theme, "Together We Celebrate Our Heritage," is captured by this year's winning poster artist, Chee Emerson.

Emerson, an award-winning artist who owns a gallery, drew inspiration from his daughter, who loves carnivals. The poster features several elements of the fair, which runs through Sunday, and will include a rodeo, pow-wow, food and arts and crafts.

Four Navajo women are in the running at the fair to serve as Miss Navajo Nation. The contestants are: Neomi Gilmore, 21; Marla Jean Billey, 20; Raysetta Francisco, 18; and Gilbertina Jackson, 22.
