Oneida Nation calls Mohican Tribe 'visitors' to N.Y.

The Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians are just "visitors" in New York, staying in the Oneida Nation's "hotel," an Oneida spokesperson says. "They (Munsees) can say what they want, but that is Oneida Nation territory and the Nation will dispute their claim," spokesperson Mark Emery told The Oneida Dispatch. "It's like a hotel, they're guests and they don't own the hotel when they leave." The Oneida Nation recently purchased 440 acres of land in the land claim area of the Stockbridge Munsee Tribe, currently based in Wisconsin. The Stockbridge Munsee Tribe is pursuing a lawsuit to reclaim land in New York and wants to build a casino there. Get the Story:
