BIA makes changes at Indian education office

The Bureau of Indian Affairs Office of Indian Education Programs has a new director. Ed Parisian [pictured], a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana, was promoted to the office's top post. He previously served as deputy director. William Mehojah, the former director, has been transferred to another position within the BIA's Washington, D.C., operation. He will now serve as the BIA's deputy director for tribal services, whose functions include reviewing tribal constitutions, approving tribal liquor ordinances and approving judgment fund lists. Under the ongoing reorganization, it will no longer have authority over federal recognition. Mehojah is at the senior executive service level. As deputy director, he reports to BIA director Terry Virden. Get the Story:
