Navajo Boys and Girls Clubs may be forced to close
Friday, April 30, 2004
The 14 Boys and Girls Clubs on the Navajo Nation may be forced to close due to financial problems, The Farmington Daily Times reports. The non-profit organization that currently runs the clubs cannot afford to pay its 46 employees. The chief professional officer blamed the problem partly on President Joe Shirley Jr., who wants to make the clubs an official government entity. Shirley's Dine Boys and Girls Club Expansion Office has a $600,000 Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act meant for the clubs, according to the paper. Get the Story:
