Judge dismisses suit over bad homes at Blackfeet
Friday, January 23, 2004

A federal judge has dismissed a case seeking monetary damages and repairs for faulty homes on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana.

U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon said the plaintiffs can't sue the Department of Housing and Urban Development under applicable laws. He also said the Blackfeet Housing Authority did not waive its immunity from suit.

The plaintiffs said they have suffered numerous health problems because the homes were built with treated wood foundations. The homes have developed mold and residents say they were exposed to toxic chemicals.
