Inouye 'shocked and saddened' by Campbell move
Thursday, March 4, 2004
The following is a statement by Senator Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), vice-chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, on the decision by Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colorado) not to seek re-election this year. March 3, 2004. I was shocked and saddened to receive word that Sen Ben Nighthorse Campbell will not seek re-election. Although he was a member of the Republican Party, Ben and I worked closely as a team on matters important to Indian Country. Senator Campbell's retirement will be a great loss to the Senate, the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and Indian Country. I wish Ben well and pray that his health problems will soon be resolved.
