FEBRUARY 12, 2001 The controversial Napster music service might finally be closed today with a court ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. The California company escaped shut down with a last minute reprieve in federal court last July. Recording companies appealed that decision and say the service violates copyright laws. Over a million users logged on to the service on Sunday in anticipation of being locked out. The company has reached a deal with one of the largest music companies and will eventually begin charging users to download music from artists on the BMG music label. A ruling is expected by noon, Pacific Standard Time. Get the Story:
