Letters: Bill Clinton and Native injustice

Facebook Twitter
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2001

The Washington Times reported yesterday that former President Bill Clinton suggested terrorism was America's price for hundreds of years of historical injustices against Native Americans and African-Americans. Readers of the paper react.

ROBERT G. SNOPEK: "Former President Bill Clinton reasons that we are experiencing foreign terror on our own soil because of our history of internal terror — slavery and the harsh treatment of American Indians. . . I hope the rest of America recognizes this prattle for what it is: good old Arkansas hogwash."

MATTHEW RUESCH: "Mr. Clinton's speech to a diverse crowd of students on campus provided hope and vision during a time in our history when we are all struggling to remain strong and have courage. Your story incorrectly implied meanings and unstated partisanship in a speech intended to lift our heads and embrace a positive future for our country."

DAVID LUKEN: "A country that survived eight years with [Bill Clinton] at its helm has little to fear from Osama bin Laden and his suicidal followers."
