In an editorial today, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader says the state of South Dakota should not jump to conclusions about the results of a racial profiling study underway.

The paper says the study will show that Native Americans are treated differently by the justice system in the state. But the paper warns that the racism might not be the cause for higher arrest, prosecution and incarceration rates.

University of South Dakota researchers are conducting the study. It was commissioned by Gov. Bill Janklow and urged by Attorney General Mark Barnett.
