JULY 2, 2001 New York Times travel writer Erika Dilday recounts her experiences volunteering on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, a trip she says taught her a valuable lesson about life. Dilday was a volunteer in the Global Citizens Network, a St. Paul, Minnesota organization. She and five others helped do odd jobs at a YMCA on the reservation. In meeting tribal members and elders, Dilday said she learned how to accept what life brings and to accept changes without denying one's own identity. Get the Story:
