JUNE 22, 2001 Actor Carol O'Connor, best known as television's Archie Bunker, died from a heart attack at a hospital in California. He was 76. O'Connor's role as Bunker, the working-class bigot in the 1970's "All in the Family", brought him critical and popular acclaim. He later starred in "In the Heat of the Night" from 1987 to 1994.
