MARCH 13, 2001 The city council in Bellevue, Nebraska, on Monday voted 9-1 to change the name of Squaw Creek to Big Elk Creek. City councilors had previously balked at changing the name but changed their mind after hearing American Indians explain why the term "squaw" is offensive.
