DECEMBER 12, 2000 A poem written by an nationally-recognized University of Alaska Anchorage poetry professor is being attacked as racist. The poem, called "Indian Girls," is about Alaska Native women living in an urban environment. The author, Linda McCarriston, is not Native and says her poem is not racist. But a Tlingit student says it exploits Native women and has begun a campaign seeking to have McCarrison apologize for it. Get the Story:
