Frank LaMere, a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, has been appointed to an at-large seat on the Democratic National Committee.

LaMere, who was former chairman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, hopes to use the position to elevate Natives in the party. He wants to get nine Native Americans seated on the DNC to elevate the American Indian Caucus from an advisory to official status.

Last year, he and other Native leaders were instrumental in condemning the actions of the Washington State Republican Party, who called for the termination of tribes.
