JANUARY 11, 2001 Calling Attorney General nominee John Ashcroft's views on civil rights, abortion, gun control, and environmental protection "far outside the mainstream of our nation," Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif) on Wednesday announced she would vote against confirming the conservative former Missouri Senator.
