Oneida Nation offers home to member

The Oneida Nation of New York is offering a four-bedroom home rent free for six months to a tribal member recently involved in a scuffle with tribal police.

Danielle Patterson had been refusing to allow tribal inspectors into her mobile home on the reservation. They came anyway, with police backup, and entered her home following a confrontation during which Patterson was injured and then charged with assaulting officers.

Patterson said she would reject the offer. "Why would I pay rent to them for a house that I could never own?" she told The Syracuse Post-Standard. "Why would I pay rent to them if I already own my own home?"
