FROM THE ARCHIVE
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2001 For the third time, the Tigua Tribe of Texas has been told to shut down its casino near El Paso. This time, the order came as U.S. District Judge Garnet Thomas Eisele on Tuesday denied the tribe's request to keep the casino open while it pursues an appeal to the 5th Circuit. Eisele said the tribe can't continue "carrying on illegal gaming activities for financial gain." The tribe operates various Class III machines at the casino without a state compact. The tribe argues that the state lottey should make the games legal in Texas. The tribe has been told to remove the offending machines by November 30. Get the Story:
