Economy not working for Sioux says teacher

With the traditional subsistence economy of the Lakota Nation destroyed, Sioux tribal members have yet to fully adapt to the white economy, says a Rosebud Sioux professor.

Shirley Sneve, who teaches at the University of Sioux Falls in South Dakota, says the arrival of whites shifted the economy from subistence to production. Later, the creation of reservations failed to provide an agricultural economy for Indians.
