TUESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2001 In an editorial today, The Orlando Sun Sentinel said the Department of Interior made the right decision to repeal a set of land-into-trust regulations finalized by the Clinton administration. Although the Bush administration has not outright repealed the rules, Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb is seeking public comment on whether to rescind them. The paper says the rule has already been overturned but so far, only its effective date has been delayed. The paper says the rules would have allowed land to be taken into trust without a governor's consent. The paper does not say a governor's consent is required only when land is taken into trust for gaming purposes. Get the Story:
