FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2001 Although local officials may feel otherwise, the chairwoman of the Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut says Thursday's reversal of two federal recognition decisions won't have an effect on her tribe's petition. Marcia Flowers told The New London Day each petition stands on its own. She said the tribe is confident a final review will be positive. Former Assistant Secretary Kevin Gover issued a preliminary finding of acknowledgment to the tribe in March 2000. The Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe also received a positive finding. The state of Connecticut is suing to block the decisions. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb is set to make a final determination by the end of the year. Get the Story:
