TUESDAY, JULY 24, 2001 The Department of Housing and Urban Developing will end funding for a gun buyback program that has been supported by a number of police organizations. The program is not part of HUD's core mission, said a spokesperson. HUD claims the program only took 1 to 2 percent of the guns off the streets. The $15 million program let local police departments buy guns in an around public housing projects. It was started by the Clinton administration in 1999. Get the Story:
