Pequot trust land lawsuit delayed

A federal judge in Connecticut on Wednesday agreed to a 60-day delay to an ongoing land-into-trust lawsuit filed by Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and three towns located near the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation.

According to attorneys for the towns, the delay was made to continue settlement talks on the case. The state opposes a 165 land-into-trust decision approved by former Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt.

The state lost the case in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals last fall but it has been remanded to federal court for consideration of several issues.
